Design: Alice in Wonderland Inspired Candy/Dessert Table

A newly opened fitness center, Queen of Hearts Fitness, here in Tallahassee asked us to donate a candy/dessert buffet for one of their grand opening events that also raised money for the American Heart Association.  The theme: an Alice in Wonderland inspired night full of dancing, drinks, and food!

While we really wanted to run with the theme and create great magic, time was not on our side, but we still managed to pull off a pretty table that took the EAT ME scene as inspiration. Check it out below:10542888_456629141143636_6247107742592940562_n

How To: Boxed Meals and Outside Parties

A great trend that draws on the simplicity of the bagged lunch are boxed meals at parties.  It is a great idea to save time and money! Also, the boxes present another opportunity to add elements of your decor or even to personalize them for your guests.

We are using a boxed lunch for our upcoming first birthday party, which has a farm inspired theme.  This route allows us to work within the two hour time limit that we have at the venue AND everything is disposable, which makes for easy and quick cleanup.  This is a great option for those events that occur at venue or outside locations.  Our boxes will be decorated with printables and some will even get an animal treatment (pigs, cows, and chicks) using some farm animals found in the Silhouette store.  They also have boxes in the shapes of the animals as well!

We found a great example of this boxed lunch on the blog ON SUTTON PLACE and she gives great tips about how to plan, pack, and store the boxes.  Are these not the cutest things!

I couldn’t end this post without sharing one of my absolute FAVORITE weddings that used the picnic boxes and combined it with a country theme! It is absolutely gorgeous and the photos by Eric Kelley Photography captures all of its colorful glory! You have to visit the blog and drool look over all of the photos!

We will share ours in a later post! Have a great day filled WITH LOVE!

Planning: A Farm Themed 1st Birthday Party

Coming up in a couple of weeks is a first birthday party for the son of a very special client. The theme: A FARM PARTY on an actual farm! A Baby Shower Brunch–The Invitation

For the baby shower invite, we decided to keep it simple and just play up the theme of the elephant and the chevron using the chosen colors. The majority of the invitation we sent through email and printed a few to give out to older guests who didn’t have email addresses.

Here it is:

I blocked out the personal information, but you get the idea. Next up, I will share a closer look at the tablescape.

A Baby Shower Brunch–The Design Board

As an event designer/stylist, I think that it is always great to find images that inspire you or give you an idea of how others have interpreted the look you are going for. In the previous post, I shared the image of the Laura Lane baby shower and her integration of chevron, elephants, and a great color scheme of pink, red, and aqua that brought the possibilities of the theme to life. However, before finding that image, we developed a design board of images that evoked the feel we wanted and also some of the actual objects that we already knew we were going to use. Here is the design board:

In the next couple of posts, I will break down some of the individual parts of the Shower, like the table decor, etc! I also have the cutest DiY craft that involves a dollar tree find and a little cute elephant!

A Brunch Baby Shower

One of the owners of With Love Events is having a baby and its a BOY! So of course, we are in charge of helping celebrate her and her bundle of joy. When designing a baby shower, the key is to find a balance between the personality and wishes of the Mommy-to-Be and the desire to be creative and try new things. The shower has went through two or three themes. The first theme was a BaByQ, or a barbecue themed coed shower. However, thinking about the heat of the South, we quickly changed courses.

This led us to consider a theme that we have been dying to work with: the chevron pattern! In addition, we considered pairing it with either owls, monkeys, or elephants, which seem to be popular as boy themed nursery items and baby shower themes. We were already sold on Gray, Red, and Aqua as the color scheme, but when we came across this image from Laura Lane Crafts, we were sold on Chevron and Elephants! This Baby Shower was super cute:

So the theme is Chevron and Elephants; we are so excited to bring this together for one of our favorite mothers-to-be!

Venue Spotlight: Doug Burnette Park on Gaines Street

If you are anything like me, you love weddings that break from the norm and the traditional format. This post comes with the desire to present couples in the Tallahassee area with nontraditional and affordable options for couples who like natural settings.

One of the best things about Tallahassee is the large number of parks in the area that are for the most part well taken care of.  In the midst of the Gaines Street Revitalization Projects lies the Doug Burnette Park, which actually has a long and interesting history that you can read about here. Although it is on the busy Gaines Street, the noise is relatively minimal now that it has been reduced to two lanes and on the weekends there would be no state worker traffic either.

For the couple looking for a no-fuss venue with great built in atmosphere and no-cost flowers, then this is a great option! There are several places that would make a good ceremony spot and if your guest list is small there is no need for chairs.  Your guests can simply circle around you or better yet sit on the ground picnic style.  I can imagine some great pictures!

Do you want to go completely out of the box? Consider having the reception at the park as well by hiring local food trucks that can use the city’s food truck park right across the street and provide your guests with great options or even prepackaged picnic lunches.

This idea is a simple and low-cost option with a big impact. And it allows for such a personalized day!  If you are interested in using the park, visit the city’s website for the application. We will be featuring more of these parks as well in our venue spotlights.  If you are outside of the Tallahassee area, check out the park’s in your city.  You may just find your perfect location!

In a few week,  I will present a design board for a Florida Fall picnic style wedding that would bring all of these ideas together.
