So we are currently planning a birthday party with a Super Mario Brothers theme for the husband of one of our staff members.  The dilemma: making it an adult party while also infusing it with the things he loves [mainly video games, which come a close second behind his wife]. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing the process of how we take the design from children’s party to a fun adult party that celebrates her hubby and his growth over the last 30 years.

The inspiration for the party comes from a photo of a Super Mario inspired cake designed by Brown Eyed Baker.

From this cake, we drew a color scheme and a running theme of the stars that we will incorporate into the decor and/or favors.  So far, we are envisioning red, blue, and yellow for the decor.  We will have a video game station with an all night tournament, music & dancing, cocktails inspired by Super Mario brothers, a candy bar for favors, and Italian food based appetizers.

Another option is this Nintendo controller cake designed by Salt Cake City:

The colors from this would provide more of an adult-like color scheme of red, black, & gray, so this may be a good option.

Have you ever planned a 30th Birthday Party? Which color scheme would you choose?
